Menu Planning
I mentioned last week that my stockpile is getting a bit out of control. I really need to challenge myself over the next couple weeks to eat off of what we already have. Today I took stock of what was in the freezer and planned my meals around what I had. Here's what I came up with:
SUNDAY: Spaghetti and meat sauce, bread
MONDAY: Sausage & Chicken packets on grill, potatoes au gratin, veggie, bread
TUESDAY: (soccer night)-eat out
WEDNESDAY: Pork chops on grill, mashed potatoes, veggie, bread
THURSDAY: Pork loin, noodle side, veggie, bread
FRIDAY: Turkey burgers (I swear my hubby would eat these EVERY day if I'd cook them!), fries, veggie
SATURDAY: eat out
Now that I'm typing it out, it seems a little redundant, but I'll change up the veggies and sides each night and I'm trying to do as much grilling as I can since the weather looks like it's going to behave for a change around here!!
So--what do I need to purchase for these meals?? Here's my shopping list for the week:
celery
onions
Wow...I think I can stay WELL under my $65 weekly budget!! Which is great since I ended up spending that much extra last week with my extra Walmart trip. So, it all evens out in the end.
Now your challenge: eating from the pantry!! It's actually quite cleansing--personally, and for the pantry!!

A Wonderful Walmart Trip
Is it just me, or do you get a little glimpse of Heaven when you get a cashier who digs your coupons?? This week I went to Walmart. I honestly can't remember the last time I went there. Since they don't have weekly "sales" or sales ads, there isn't that time crunch to get there before the price changes or the RR deal expires. So I kinda end up forgetting about them, always busier with my Wags, CVS and Target runs, along with all the local grocery stores. So, usually once every few months I'll make a run with all my Qs that are getting ready to expire. There are just certain things that you can get a better deal on at Walmart!
I honestly didn't realize how many coupons I had to use up. They were in a little accordion envelope thing and it wasn't until I got up to the register and pulled the stack out that I thought "OMG!! This cashier is going to KILL me!!" I got up there and politely said "I hope you don't hate coupons (cringe!)" and she said "NO! I'm a couponer too!!!" Oh...how I love those words. We talked coupon sites as she rang me up. My total was $126.77 before coupons, and $66.17 after! LOVE it!!
I really didn't need a darn thing that I bought (well, except for the baby wipes and shave cream) but it all looks beautiful in my stockpile (which, I might add, is getting a little ridiculous. I think it may be time to start "living off the stockpile," so to speak. Can I possibly go a whole week buying NOTHING?? I'm not sure that's a challenge I'm up for!) So, yes, lots of stuff just sitting on the shelves of my basement right now, but it will all get used eventually! Among the highlights: 2 Armour Alls for $.28 each, 8 Huggies soft-packs wipes for $1.18 ea, 6 Wheatables Nut Crisps for $.48 each, 2 Capri Suns for $.97 each, 3 soymilk cartons for $1.48 each, and 3 Nivea body washes for FREE....
I found most of my match-ups right here! Thanks KC Penny Pinchin Mama! You're the best!!

My Grocery Savings for this Week
This week I was able to get all I needed at just two stores, and for under my weekly grocery/household item budget of $65. I stopped at Cosentino's Price Chopper and CVS and here is what I got:
3 fruit snacks, a 6pk paper towels, 3 nestle drumsticks, 3 12-ct Pop Tarts, 3 6-pks Ensure, 3 Lay's potato chips, a pound of 93% lean ground beef, 2 Chex Mix, 3 frozen veggies, a pack of blackberries, 2 Apple sauce 6pks, 3 Hunt's pudding 4pks, 2 Cover Girl lip glosses, 2 things of bread, among other things...
...all of this ran me $51.47 out of pocket! I saved over $64 at Price Chopper and about $30 at CVS.
Find Kansas City area Price Chopper match-ups here.

WEDNESDAY: (late night at work) Manwich, chips, veggie
THURSDAY: (school program nite) Eat out

My Grocery Savings for this Week
I didn't think the deals this week were quite as great as last week's, but I did pretty well, none-the-less. This week, I shopped at Walgreens, CVS, Price Chopper, and Hen House. I did all my stops in one two-hour period. So, for those of you thinking "why on Earth would you drive all over town for that!?!"...it's really not that bad. (At least not where I live....everything is pretty close in proximity.)
So.... I managed to get all the items pictured above for a grand total of $53.98 out of pocket! I was pretty happy with this considering the 4 pounds of ground beef, eggs, a bag full of apples, 3 bags of cheese, 10 Pillsbury crescents, Grands, and cinnamon rolls (which, by the way, are apparently fantastic for building towers with), and so on.
Probably my best deal of the day was the Dulcolax Balance I scored in the clearance section at CVS. This must have been discounted because the outer cap was cracked (um...who cares??? The seal was still intact!) It retails for $12.99 but was marked $1.30! Just so happens I had a coupon for $1 off that I got in my Walgreens goody bag last week, so I scored that $12.99 bottle for just $0.30!!
You can find the Price Chopper deals here (valid thru 5/11)
Hen House deals here (valid thru 5/11)
CVS deals here
and Walgreens deals here.
Thanks Hip2Save & KCPennyPinchinMama

Do you know about the Pace Hand-Pick & Win Sweepstakes?? It's super easy, and the prize is a FREE bottle of Pace picante sauce!! My problem: remembering to enter every day! But, today was my lucky day...I finally won!! Yeah!!
Wanna try your luck?? Go here and sign up. Then you'll be asked to enter a code from under a cap of Pace. Don't have one?? Use code SAL235. If you don't win your free jar, then be sure to go back tomorrow...you can play daily through July! AND...each person can win up to FIVE times!! So, 1 down, 4 to go for me. Perhaps now I'll be more motivated to play daily.
Oh--when you win, they will send your coupon for a free bottle (up to $4) in the mail. I haven't confirmed this myself, but rumor has it the big jugs of Pace are right around $4 at Walmart. So, better than a jar, you could get a JUG for FREE!!
Good luck!!

Kraft First Taste Offers
Have you signed up for Kraft First Taste?? As a member of the First Taste community, you'll be the first to discover and learn about new Kraft products. You'll be able to discover new products and give you feedback. There are frequently offers posted right on your home page. Today I checked my account to find an offer for $1.50 off Oscar Meyer turkey bacon...that'll make for some cheap bacon!! There's really a whole online community through First Taste, where you can connect with others. I gotta admit, I'm in it for the coupons and offers, not to make new online friends....but, hey--to each their own. Now if you are just signing up today, don't expect a coupon for turkey bacon to magically appear...it took me a couple months of checking my account before I *finally* received my first offer. But go ahead--Check it out here.

DID YOU KNOW?? A Fab Hair Tip!
Summer's here and that probably means more frizz-control products, hair spray, chlorine, and many other icky things building up in our hair. So...what's a frugal girl to do? Go pay top-dollar for one of those clarifying shampoos?? No way!!
Did you know you can add a teaspoon or two of baking powder to a squirt of your regular shampoo--just mix it up in your hand and lather up! It will strip your hair of all that build-up in no time. And my guess is that you already have a box of baking powder in your home. (And I KNOW you have tons of shampoo, if you are a true 'couponer')....so...FREE clarifying shampoo!
Hope I was able to teach you something new!

My Grocery Savings for this Week
I'm so proud of myself! It's not even noon on Monday and I've done all my shopping for the week! Whoohoo!! Sunday night I made a run to Price Chopper, Hen House and Walgreens. Here's what I got:
My total for this trip, combined: $21.77!! Pretty good for fresh chicken thighs, Sara Lee bread, yogurt, cheese, fresh cut vegetables, and 4 body washes, among other things. Without coupons, this trip would have cost me nearly $50!!
You can find the Price Chopper deals here. (Deals valid only through 5/4)
Hen House deals here. (Deals valid only through 5/4)
Walgreens deals here. (These deals good through Saturday)
Oh, I got this goody bag at Walgreen's too:You might keep your eye out for this near the door or cosmetics department. There were several samples inside and lots of coupons, too!!
This morning I took the kids to CVS and Hy-Vee. CVS was disasterous!!! But not because of the deals; it was the kids!! The location we went to has those "car carts" that normally are a God-send for mommy-shopping. But here, they have "single-sitters." Only one kid fits and that is NOT condusive to keeping two kids happy. It was a very LOUD experience and I think everyone there hated me by the time I left. I was very happy it was a light week in the CVS deals department so it was a quick in and out. After a stern talking-to in the car, the Hy-Vee trip went MUCH more smoothly. Here's what I got between the two places:
My total OOP: $15.08, PLUS I got back 3 EB at CVS and $4.50 in catalinas from Hy-Vee!! If you aren't familiar with what catalinas are, they are coupons that print out at the register when you check out. The Register Rewards at Walgreens are printed out of a catalina machine. Now most Targets seem to have catalinas at their checkouts. Certain Hy-Vee and Price Chopper stores around the KC area have CATs, too.
Here are two Catalina deals at Hy-Vee worth mentioning:
1. Buy 3 Old El Paso items in one transaction, get $1 coupon good toward your next purchase.
Buy 6, save $3 OYNP (on your next purchase)
Buy 6 taco seasoning packets, $0.69 each.
Use 3 $0.60/2 IPs, here (will need access to two computers)
Pay $2.34 for the six packets, and GET $3 coupon toward your next purchase, making this a money maker of $0.66!
2. South Beach bars 2/$4. Buy 2, get $1.50 OYNP. Buy 3, get $3 OYNP. Buy 4 or more, get $4 OYNP.
I bought 2 (wish I'd had more coupons with me!!)=$4
Used two $1 IPs from here
Paid $2 OOP, got back $1.50 CAT, making these just $0.25 after coupons and CATs!!
Anyway, my second shopping trip ending up being $15.08 OOP and without coupons it would have been over $56!! Pretty awesome if you ask me: I got FIVE 12-pks of Coke products, a 24-pack of bottled water, gallon of milk, South Beach bars, and more!
Find Hy-Vee match-ups here. (Only valid through tomorrow, 5/4!)
Find CVS match-ups here. (Valid through Saturday)
So all in all, this week I've gotten over $100 worth of groceries and toiletry items for just $36.85!! That's WELL below my $65 weekly budgeted amount! And who says clipping coupons isn't worth it!!
